An afternoon visit to the Georgian market town of Stamford before we board our Nene Valley vintage steam train journey with fish and chip supper
We depart Lincoln early afternoon and first head directly to the Georgian market town of Stamford with some afternoon time to explore the beautiful Lincolnshire town with its array of cafés, independent shops and market stalls, seventeenth- and eighteenth-century buildings. Stamford was designated the country’s first conservation area in 1967. Stooped in history from it woollen industry heyday, former breweries and its five parish churches. Also famed by its connections with William Cecil, Daniel Lambert and Tom Thumb. Saturday is also host to market day in the pedestrian shopping area.
We depart Stamford late afternoon and make a short drive to Wansford station, home of the Nene Valley Heritage Railway. With time to explore the station and view a few engines and wagons, as well as the stations history and its ongoing projects. Before we board our vintage steam train for a return trip to Peterborough via the ferry meadows and countryside, where you can relax, unwind with a tipple from the train bar, and travel into a bygone nostalgic time. The pre ordered supper is served at Peterborough before we return via a stop at Yarwell station, with an opportunity to explore the station and gardens before the return to Wansford station.
This trip is suitable for all over the age of 14 years old, singles, groups and families.
