Day 1.
Following our pick ups we head directly to the town of Thirsk. We make a visit to the world of James Herriot Museum, the original home of All Creatures Great & Small. Celebrating the life and work of Alf Wight, the real James Herriot. Set inside his original 1940’s home and surgery, the museum brings his world vividly to life with faithfully restored rooms, hands on exhibits, and fascinating memorabilia from the books and TV series. Explore the fully restored surgery, dispensary, and living rooms where James Herriot actually lived and worked. Step onto the set of All Creatures Great and Small with behind-the-scenes displays and props.
Following our museum visit we enjoy the charming market town of Thirsk. With its small-town charm with rich history and stunning natural surroundings. Explore the cobbled market square with its distinctive clock tower and Georgian buildings. Take an opportunity to visit the small but fascinating Thirsk Museum, housed in the birthplace of Thomas Lord, founder of Lords Cricket Ground. Showcasing local history with exhibits on rural life, crafts and Thirsk’s development through the centuries.
We arrive the city of York and the Marriot Delta hotel late afternoon. Dinner is included.
Day 2.
After a good hearty breakfast, we take a scenic country drive through the Nidderdale National Landscape to the charming and bustling Yorkshire Dales market town of Grassington. Known for its cobbled streets, independent shops, and as the filming location for “Darrowby” in the current All Creatures Great and Small. With time to explore and walk in the footsteps of characters and enjoy the many tea rooms or pubs for some lunch refreshments.
This afternoon we visit the cathedral city of Ripon. Steeped in history and home to magnificent historical buildings, including the 7th century gothic cathedral. The busy little city and its small streets and snickets. It’s believed that the gypsum sinkholes found in the surrounding countryside were the inspiration for the beginning of Alice’s mysterious journey.
We return our hotel late afternoon, Dinner included.
Day 3.
We head into the city centre of York for free time to explore on of England’s finest cities, with an array of attractions, shops, museums, restaurants, tea shops and pubs for some lunch time refreshment.
We depart early afternoon and make our return journey home.
