Day 1:
Following our pick-ups we head south, with a mid-morning comfort stop at Roxton Garden centre enroute to Surrey and RHS Kew Gardens. Discover the world of science behind the botanical collections, with over 50,000 living plants to be found across the UNESCO World Heritage site. As one of the world’s great gardens, packed with endless horticultural inspiration. Victorian glasshouses to smaller hidden gems. Indoor rainforest and tropical plants for some of the most threatened environments in the world. Henry Moores monumental sculptures to the Carbon Garden. We take Lunch at Kew Gardens where you can enjoy a choice of onsite restaurants. And time to browse the gift shop. We depart the gardens and head to our Hotel near Dorking, The wonderful Wotton House Country Estate 4-star Hotel. Former home to botanist and arboriculture expert John Evelyn. This idyllic picture postcard setting with its grade 2 listed garden design will absorb you into a time gone by.
Day 2:
After a hearty breakfast, head to the West Sussex town of Arundel. Our castle tour begins in 1067 and continues to the present day. View many of the original features such as the Norman keep, medieval Gatehouse and Barbican. View the Gothic style Victorian rebuild. See and hear about the finely preserved interior with its fascinating furniture, tapestries and rare collection of paintings by renowned artists such as Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Canaletto. Stroll through the tranquil grounds where you will discover inspiring gardens. Just a short walk from the Castle takes you into the heart of Arundel’s historic town centre with its museums, galleries, shops, and restaurants. We depart mid-afternoon and make our return to the hotel.
Day 3:
A free day to explore the hotel, its gardens and country park. Make use of the swimming pool or just relax and enjoy the comfort and pleasant surroundings. This afternoon we enjoy tea and cake before we are joined by the hotel general manager, who takes us on a garden tour as we hear about the history of the Wotton House estate.
Day 4:
Today we visit the Weald and Downland living museum. Home to Tv’s Repair Shop. An award-winning museum of historic buildings, covering 40 acres in the South Downs National Park. Includes over 50 historic buildings dating from 950AD to the 19th Century. Together with period gardens, traditional farm animals and a mill pond. Collections relating to rural life, including agriculture, domestic life, trades and industries and transport. The museum brings to life the homes, farmsteads and rural industries represented by its collections. With working exhibits and demonstrations. The museum is home to TV’s Repair shop, where you never know, you might get a glimpse.
Day 5:
After breakfast we depart our hotel and make our short drive to our final visit to Polesden Lacey. A A magnificent Edwardian country retreat. Famous for its opulent interiors, rich royal history, and sweeping views of the surrey Hills. Margaret Greville’s the last owner of Polseden Lacy, View her glittering collection of old Master paintings, ceramics, and Faberge objects. Not forgetting the formal grounds and walled rose garden, a winter garden that bloom in spring and summer. We depart Mid-afternoon and return back in Lincolnshire early evening with our drop offs.
